[News Culture] Disney+ is bringing one of Korea’s best-known romance-fantasy titles to live action this fall, with Shin Min-a, Lee Se-young, Ju Ji-hoon and Lee Jong-suk leading The Remarried Empress.
At the heart of the story is Navier, played by Shin Min-a, an empress whose carefully ordered world begins to unravel when her husband, Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon), falls for Rashta (Lee Se-young), a runaway slave who enters the imperial court.
But Navier refuses to become the discarded wife in someone else’s story. When Sovieshu seeks a divorce, she agrees — then shocks the court by asking to marry Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk), prince of the Western Kingdom.
That turning point drives the drama’s first teaser poster, which shows Navier standing alone inside an imposing courtroom. Shin Min-a’s restrained expression and commanding posture give the image its tension, presenting a ruler who remains composed even as her marriage and political standing are thrown into crisis.

For longtime fans, the declaration is the moment The Remarried Empress truly begins. It is less a response to betrayal than a statement of intent: Navier will not allow the emperor’s decision to dictate what comes next.
The role gives Shin Min-a room to move beyond conventional romantic melodrama, playing a woman whose elegance is matched by political instinct and quiet resolve. Her performance is expected to carry much of the series’ emotional weight as Navier navigates both the fallout of her marriage and the power struggle surrounding the throne.
The drama is adapted from the hit franchise of the same name, led by a webtoon that had reached 2.97 billion cumulative views as of July 2026. It also marks Disney+’s first Korean romance-fantasy production.
With Shin Min-a at the center and Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk and Lee Se-young forming the other corners of its royal power struggle, The Remarried Empress is shaping up as a large-scale palace romance built on betrayal, ambition and competing claims to love and authority.
The series is scheduled for a worldwide release on Disney+ this fall.
