[News Culture] Seven film composers have made the final cut for this year’s Music InSight competition at the 22nd Jecheon International Music & Film Festival (JIMFF).
The lineup brings together Jung Yong-jin for ‘Plaza Wars,’ Cho Young-wuk for ‘No Other Choice,’ Dalpalan for ‘The People Upstairs,’ Kim Sawol for ‘Maggie; the Girl of the Streets,’ Kim Tae-seong for ‘The King of Kings,’ Kim Jun-seok for ‘Hi-Five’ and Lee Su-bin for ‘3670.’
Introduced last year, Music InSight celebrates outstanding work in Korean film music while turning the spotlight on the composers behind the scores. Kim Tae-seong became its first winner for ‘Exhuma.’
This year’s preliminary round drew votes from 94 of the 736 alumni of the Jecheon International Music & Film Academy (JIMFA). The month-long selection process, held from April 28 to May 28, considered Korean feature films produced since January 2025.
An international jury will choose the eventual winner from the seven finalists. The recipient will receive KRW 15 million in prize money along with a trophy.
“The nominees this year vary widely in genre, scale and musical character,” programmer Cho Myung-jin said. “It should be fascinating in itself to see just how differently music can function across Korean films made within the same year.”
The 22nd Jecheon International Music & Film Festival will take place across Jecheon from Sept. 3 to 8.
The festival has also begun rolling out its major programs, with director Bong Joon Ho, journalist Sohn Suk-hee and actor Jeon Mi-do among the guests announced for ‘Talk to You.’ The lineup for ‘One Summer Night with K-pop Season 2’ has also been unveiled ahead of the September festival.
