[News Culture] Na Hong-jin's Hope showed little sign of losing momentum on Monday, maintaining a commanding lead over the South Korean box office even as the weekend surge gave way to weekday traffic.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Hope drew 143,062 moviegoers on July 20, securing its sixth consecutive day at No. 1. Its cumulative admissions reached 2,272,733.
The film has maintained a blistering pace since its debut, crossing 1 million admissions in just three days and doubling that total only two days later.
Set near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, Hope follows Beom-seok, the head of a remote police outpost in Hopo, where reports of a tiger sighting set off a chain of events that plunges the entire community into an unimaginable crisis.
Animated feature Minions & Monsters remained a distant second with 16,807 admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 391,583.
The adventure follows James, Henry and Ed, three Minions determined to turn their filmmaking dreams into reality, as they set off in search of monsters for their ambitious debut feature.
Moana ranked third with 11,094 admissions, lifting its cumulative total to 783,186.
The Eyes climbed back into the upper ranks at No. 4 with 10,217 admissions. The Shin Min-a-led suspense thriller has now accumulated 1,441,433 admissions.
Toy Story 5 rounded out the top five with 7,510 admissions, pushing its cumulative tally to 2,757,682.
