JTBC's weekend drama "The Apartment Job" is turning a routine apartment representative election into a campaign worthy of national headlines, with Ji Sung leading the charge in one of the series' most over-the-top storylines yet.
The series has been gaining momentum since its premiere. Episode 2 set a new personal best with an average nationwide rating of 5.4%, a 5.8% average in the Seoul metropolitan area and a peak of 6.5%, according to Nielsen Korea. It also ranked No. 1 among all non-terrestrial Sunday programs and topped Netflix's South Korea Top 10 TV Series chart.
The previous episode saw Park Hae-gang (Ji Sung) uncover the apartment complex's ₩17.8 billion long-term maintenance fund, prompting him to launch an ambitious plan of his own. After signing a fake ₩100 million contract with Kang Ha-ri (Ha Yoon-kyung), he assembled an unlikely "family" that included former building manager Lizard (Kim Won-hae), Kim Gyeong-nam (Jeong Soon-won), Jang Je-gil (Hwang Hee) and Big Doong (Kim Gyu-won) as he prepared to run for apartment representative.
Episode 3 raises the stakes even further.
Newly released stills show Hae-gang dressed head-to-toe in a bright pink campaign outfit emblazoned with the slogan, "Park Hae-gang for Apartment Representative." Standing atop a campaign truck parked in the middle of the apartment complex, he grabs the microphone and launches into an unabashed dance routine in a determined effort to win over voters.
Known for his commanding dramatic performances, Ji Sung embraces full-fledged comedy in the sequence, playing Hae-gang as a man who approaches a neighborhood election with the intensity of a presidential campaign.
His makeshift family is just as committed to the cause. Lizard, Gyeong-nam, Je-gil, Big Doong and his fake son Kim Gyeong-buk (Kim Han-gyeol) join forces for a synchronized campaign performance, adding another layer of ensemble comedy to the election battle.
According to the production team, Hae-gang's seemingly straightforward campaign will soon run into unexpected obstacles, forcing him and his unconventional team to improvise once again as the race takes another unpredictable turn.
Episode 3 of "The Apartment Job" airs July 18 at 10:40 p.m. KST on JTBC.
