Hope continued its explosive theatrical launch on Friday, becoming the fastest film of 2026 to surpass 1 million admissions and further cementing its status as the year's biggest box office phenomenon.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Hope sold 594,793 tickets on July 17, remaining No. 1 for a third consecutive day. Its cumulative admissions climbed to 1,220,505.
The thriller crossed the 1 million-admission milestone a day ahead of Colony, which ultimately drew more than 5.9 million moviegoers earlier this year, highlighting the exceptional pace of its theatrical run. With the weekend still ahead, the film is now positioned to challenge the 2 million mark within its opening frame.
Directed by Na Hong-jin, Hope marks the filmmaker's first feature in a decade. Set near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, the thriller stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon.
Animated feature Minions & Monsters remained second with 126,524 admissions, lifting its cumulative total to 192,733.
Moana ranked third after adding 67,549 admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 666,100.
Toy Story 5 climbed to fourth with 42,781 admissions, raising its cumulative total to 2,678,244.
The Eyes, starring Shin Min-a, rounded out the top five with 30,844 admissions. Its cumulative total reached 1,386,504.
