Disney's live-action Moana remained atop the South Korean box office on Monday, but industry attention has increasingly shifted to Hope, which has amassed more than 460,000 advance ticket sales ahead of its nationwide debut.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Moana sold 29,084 tickets on July 13 to remain No. 1 on the daily chart. Its cumulative admissions climbed to 540,553.
The Disney release has led the local box office since opening and now heads into its second weekend as the market leader.
The Eyes, starring Shin Min-a, returned to second place with 26,902 admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 1,304,161.
Toy Story 5 followed in third with 17,731 admissions, lifting its cumulative total to 2,598,048. The Disney-Pixar sequel is now closing in on the 3 million-admission milestone.
Colony climbed to fourth after drawing 6,106 moviegoers, increasing its cumulative total to 5,920,427.
The infection thriller stars Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rok and Ko Soo.
Animated feature David rounded out the top five with 5,314 admissions, raising its cumulative total to 80,783.
Ahead of its July 15 release, Hope had amassed 468,387 advance ticket sales as of 8 a.m. on July 14, accounting for 64.6% of all reservations nationwide. The exceptional presale performance underscores the strong anticipation surrounding director Na Hong-jin's latest feature and positions it as the market's next major theatrical launch.
