K-pop's music videos have become one of the genre's most influential global calling cards, helping artists expand beyond music through cinematic storytelling, visual effects and large-scale production. Yet while performers have long dominated major awards ceremonies, the creative professionals behind those productions have rarely had a dedicated platform of their own.
That gap is set to narrow with the launch of the K-POP MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS (KMVA), Korea's first awards program devoted exclusively to K-pop music videos.
The Korea Music Video Association, led by President Lim Doo-hyun, and World K-Pop Center, headed by CEO Park Sung-jin, have signed an agreement to establish a special purpose company (SPC) and jointly operate the KMVA organizing committee. The partnership marks the first formal step toward building a long-term platform dedicated to recognizing excellence in K-pop music video production.
Rather than functioning solely as an annual awards ceremony, KMVA is intended to support the broader music video sector by highlighting the work of directors, cinematographers, editors, production designers, stylists, VFX artists and other creative professionals whose contributions have become increasingly central to K-pop's global appeal.
The awards will adopt a judging system that combines evaluations from industry professionals with global fan participation, while expanding beyond traditional prize presentations through programs such as official screenings of nominated works, Creator Spotlight sessions and Creator GV events. Organizers say the format is designed to position music videos not only as promotional content but also as an independent creative medium and cultural industry.
The initiative also builds on the Korea Music Video Association's growing international engagement. Earlier this year, the association supported official submissions to the Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVA), where BTS' "2.0" and P1Harmony's "UNIQUE" were selected for the Silver Screenings program, underscoring the international visibility of Korean music video production.
Leveraging those global connections, the organizers plan to expand KMVA into an international platform linking Korean creators with overseas festivals, awards programs and industry partners. The newly established SPC will also oversee projects including international submission programs, creator networking, industry research and education, intellectual property development and cross-border collaborations.
The inaugural K-POP MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS 2026 is scheduled for the second half of 2026. Alongside awards recognizing outstanding works and creative achievements, the event will feature a red carpet, official screenings of nominated music videos and creator-focused programs designed to showcase the artistry behind K-pop's visual production.
Representatives from the Korea Music Video Association said KMVA is intended to strengthen the creative ecosystem surrounding Korean music videos while expanding opportunities for industry professionals on the global stage.
World K-Pop Center said it aims to develop the awards into an international festival where creators and fans alike can celebrate the artistic and cultural impact of K-pop music videos.
