Disney's live-action Moana opened atop the South Korean box office on Wednesday, while The Eyes continued its strong theatrical run and moved within striking distance of 1 million admissions.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Moana drew 66,806 moviegoers on its opening day, July 8, finishing first on the daily chart. Including preview screenings, the film has accumulated 67,430 admissions.
The live-action adaptation follows Moana, the young navigator chosen by the ocean, as she joins the demigod Maui on a voyage to lift an ancient curse threatening her island.
The Eyes, starring Shin Min-a, placed second with 50,516 admissions. Its cumulative total climbed to 981,322, leaving the suspense thriller just shy of the 1 million-admission milestone after a breakout run fueled by positive audience response.
Toy Story 5 ranked third with 34,349 admissions, raising its cumulative total to 2,317,174.
Colony finished fourth after adding 8,623 admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 5,869,936.
The infection thriller stars Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rok and Ko Soo.
Comedy Wild Sing rounded out the top five with 4,218 admissions, lifting its cumulative total to 1,317,270.
