Shin Min-a's suspense thriller "Eyes" has been selected for the Panorama Fantastic Competition at the 59th Sitges Film Festival, marking another international milestone as the film continues its global theatrical rollout.
Running from Oct. 8 to Oct. 18, the Spanish festival is regarded as one of the world's premier showcases for fantasy, horror and genre cinema. Korean titles including "No Other Choice," "The Roundup" series, "Sleep," "The Night Owl" and "Train to Busan" have previously screened at the event.
"Eyes" follows Seo-jin, who is gradually losing her vision to a hereditary eye disease. While investigating the suspicious death of her twin sibling, she uncovers a hidden truth that draws her into an increasingly dangerous mystery.
Festival artistic director Ángel Sala praised the film for "establishing its own identity rather than relying on its origins as a remake," describing it as "a finely controlled thriller whose understated horror elements and carefully sustained tension keep audiences engaged through the very end."
The Sitges selection comes as "Eyes" broadens its international theatrical run. Following releases in the Philippines, Singapore and Mongolia, the film will open in North America on July 10 before expanding to Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Russia and Japan.
