SBS fantasy romance My Royal Nemesis heads into its finale with momentum on both the ratings front and the story front, as Episode 13 delivered the series' most consequential cliffhanger to date.
The June 19 episode posted a nationwide rating of 10.7%, with a peak of 11.9%, setting a new series high ahead of the finale.
Much of the episode focused on a rare moment of calm for Shin Seo-ri (Lim Ji-yeon) and Cha Se-gye (Heo Nam-jun). After finally gaining a clearer understanding of the centuries-old mystery surrounding her identity and fate, Seo-ri appeared ready to embrace the life she had built in the present. The chapter also allowed the central couple to envision a future together, providing an emotional payoff after weeks of supernatural twists and personal upheaval.
That sense of hope ultimately served as the setup for the episode's dramatic final turn.
In the closing moments, Se-gye was attacked by a mysterious assailant and left fighting for his life, abruptly shifting the drama's focus from romance to survival. The incident was followed by a revelation that further expanded the series' mythology, linking Se-gye's fate to that of Grand Prince Hyun, the Joseon-era figure also portrayed by Heo Nam-jun.
The twist reframes the drama's endgame around a difficult choice. According to the prophecy revealed in the episode, saving Se-gye may require Seo-ri to return to the past and alter events in the Joseon era. Doing so, however, would come at a devastating cost: she may never be able to return to the present.
Beyond the central fantasy narrative, Episode 13 also advanced the escalating conflict surrounding Choi Moon-do (Jang Seung-jo) while delivering an emotional farewell tied to Seo-ri's family, adding further weight to a chapter largely defined by questions of destiny, loss and sacrifice.
With its central romance facing its greatest test and its mythology converging on a single decision, My Royal Nemesis enters its final episode with the future of both Seo-ri and Se-gye hanging in the balance.
