Pixar's Toy Story 5 opened at No. 1 at the South Korean box office on Wednesday, ending the reign of local hit Colony with a commanding debut of 94,171 admissions.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Toy Story 5 led the market on June 17, its first day in theaters, bringing its cumulative admissions total to 95,708.
The animated sequel follows Jessie, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the toy gang as they face an unexpected new challenge after Bonnie's smart tablet companion, LilyPad, enters the picture.
After several weeks atop the chart, Colony slipped to second place with 30,906 admissions. The survival thriller has now amassed 5,309,632 admissions nationwide.
Starring Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rock and Ko Soo, the film centers on survivors trapped inside a quarantined building during a mysterious outbreak that transforms the infected into increasingly unpredictable threats.
Comedy feature Wild Sing ranked third with 25,267 admissions, pushing its cumulative total to 943,650.
Horror title Backrooms placed fourth with 9,899 admissions, surpassing the one-million milestone with a cumulative total of 1,010,117.
Kim Jaejoong's shamanic occult horror film The Shrine: Whisper of the Evil Spirit debuted in fifth place with 7,145 admissions and a cumulative total of 8,897.
The film follows a shaman named Myung-jin as he investigates the disappearance of three university students following a research trip to an abandoned shrine in Kobe, Japan.
