[NewsCulture] Korea’s most celebrated traditional performing arts will take center stage in Busan this summer as the country welcomes delegates and cultural leaders attending the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

The special performance “Good GOOD Busan” will be held on July 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the BEXCO Auditorium, bringing together more than 120 master artists and performers under the theme, “One Stage, the Full Spectrum of Korean Arts.” Organized to commemorate the international gathering, the event highlights the depth and diversity of Korea’s intangible cultural heritage through a single large-scale production.

Since its launch in 2004, the Good GOOD series has toured cities across the country and attracted more than 107,000 audience members. The Busan edition expands that mission onto a global stage, presenting traditional arts to both local audiences and visitors from around the world.

The program opens with Jongmyo Jeryeak, the royal ancestral ritual music of Korea, performed by the National Busan Gugak Center. The evening will also feature pansori master Kim Il-gu, the traditional ensemble Baraji performing Sinawi, Dongnae Hakchum by the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society and the Korea Heritage Agency Performing Arts Troupe, tightrope walking by transmission educator Kwon Won-tae, farmers’ music by the Gumi Mueul Nongak Preservation Society, and a fusion Korean music performance by Jang Sa-ik and Friends. Actor and pansori practitioner Oh Jeong-hae will host the event.

Several featured traditions—including Jongmyo Jeryeak, Pansori, Namsadang Nori and Nongak—are inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, reinforcing the event’s significance as Busan hosts one of the world’s most important heritage forums.

Beyond performance, the program serves as a cultural showcase of Korea’s living traditions, demonstrating how centuries-old practices continue to evolve while remaining rooted in community, ritual and artistic craftsmanship.

A free outdoor pre-event will take place at BEXCO Plaza on July 25 at 6 p.m. Visitors can experience traditional street processions, tightrope walking and pangut percussion performances in an open-air festival setting designed to introduce audiences to the energy and participatory spirit of Korean folk culture.

The Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Heritage Agency said they will continue using major international events as platforms to expand global awareness of Korea’s traditional arts and intangible heritage.
