The animated feature David has moved up its Korean release date, arriving in theaters on July 10 instead of its previously scheduled July 25 debut.
The film follows the journey of David, a humble shepherd whose destiny changes as he rises to confront the giant Goliath and embrace his future as a king. The release adjustment will allow Korean audiences to see the film two weeks earlier than originally planned.
Featuring Korean voice performances by Park Bo-gum, Cha Ji-yeon and Jang Gwang, the film has attracted significant attention ahead of its local launch.
David posted a strong North American opening weekend, generating $22 million and surpassing The King of Kings to set a new benchmark for faith-based animated films. Industry observers are now watching to see whether that momentum can translate into box-office success in Korea.
Critical reception from overseas outlets has been largely positive. Reviews have highlighted the film's animation quality, large-scale visual design and emotional storytelling, while praising its ability to reinterpret a familiar biblical narrative for modern audiences.
Audience response has also been notable. The film earned an A CinemaScore, one of the highest ratings awarded through the audience polling service, and holds a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating strong word-of-mouth support among moviegoers.
