Veteran actor Shin Goo continues to captivate theatergoers at the age of 90 as The French Vault: Who Shall Climb the North Wall? approaches the end of its acclaimed run.
Set to close on June 7, The French Vault is a black comedy that follows five individuals gathered before a secret underground bank vault over the course of a single night. Forced to cooperate despite deep mistrust of one another, the characters find themselves trapped in an ironic situation that generates both razor-sharp tension and explosive laughter. The production earned praise from critics and audiences alike, while also drawing attention as a play personally written by director Jang Jin after being inspired by Shin Goo.
Performances featuring Shin Goo sold out early in the run, recording 100 percent seat occupancy shortly after opening. Demand became so intense that securing tickets was difficult even a month in advance. Fellow lead actor Sung Ji Ru also earned widespread praise for his exceptional synchronization with the character, helping drive the production's impressive average seat occupancy rate of 91 percent.
The overwhelming response prompted producers to extend the show's original closing date by one week. The production had initially been scheduled to end on May 31.
A major factor behind the play's success has been its ensemble cast and consistently strong performances. Despite his age, Shin Goo has delivered a commanding presence on stage throughout the production, adding depth, authority, and emotional resonance to the story.
He is joined by a distinguished cast that includes Sung Ji Ru, Jang Hyun Sung, Jung Young Joo, Jang Young Nam, Choi Young Joon, Jo Dal Hwan, Ahn Doo Ho, Kim Han Kyul, Joo Jong Hyuk, Kim Seul Gi, and Geum Sae Rok. Their seamless chemistry and comic timing have been widely credited with elevating the production's appeal.
The French Vault will continue its run in Daehangno through June 7.
