Natural landscapes and historic cultural sites across Korea will soon resonate with the rich sounds of traditional Korean music. What once felt distant or reserved for formal stages will instead become part of everyday life as the Traditional Performing Arts Foundation presents "Gugak Week Special Performances: Gugak, Becoming the Resonance of Everyday Life" in celebration of the second annual Gugak Day.

The program was designed around the idea that gugak should not be confined to special venues but should naturally blend into the rhythms of daily life. Taking place in arboretums, traditional cultural sites, and urban parks, the series will introduce audiences to a wide range of traditional arts, including folk performances, court music, folk music, and Korean dance.

At the National Sejong Arboretum, audiences will experience lively performances where nature and traditional arts come together. The Cheonan Heungtaryeong Pungmul Troupe and Sehan Traditional Performing Arts Group will present pungmul and traditional folk performances, creating an immersive experience amid the scenery of the early summer gardens.

On the same day, Namsan Palgakjeong Pavilion will host dynamic performances by young artists. Members of the National Youth Yeonhui Company, the National Youth Dance Company, and Nanjang & Pan will reinterpret traditional performance arts and Korean dance through a contemporary lens, delivering the excitement and beauty of gugak to both local residents and international visitors.

On June 10, a refined traditional music concert featuring masters of court and folk music will take place at Unhyeongung. Renowned musicians including Jeong Jae Guk and Kim Cheong Man will present elegant court music, sanjo, and pungnyu repertoire that harmonizes with the historic surroundings. The program will also feature Chunaengjeon, one of the most celebrated court dances of the Joseon Dynasty, along with Hallyangmu, showcasing the grace and sophistication of traditional Korean dance within a cultural heritage setting.

From June 13 to 14, Seoul Forest will become an open-air festival venue where visitors can freely enjoy a diverse range of performances. Participating artists include the National Gugak Center Creative Traditional Orchestra, Gugak A Cappella Group Toris, Kim Ju Hong & Noreum Machi, Cello Gayageum, and Chungjeonso. Their performances will blend gugak with a cappella, world music, and contemporary sounds, creating an accessible cultural experience for audiences of all ages.

The Traditional Performing Arts Foundation was established to promote traditional arts and expand public access to cultural experiences. Originally founded in 2007 as the Gugak Culture Foundation under approval from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the organization adopted its current name in 2009. Since then, it has worked to broaden the reach of traditional arts, develop high-quality cultural content, nurture emerging artists, and expand international cultural exchanges.
