Michael dominated the Korean box office over its opening weekend, drawing overwhelming audience numbers and extending its reign to five consecutive days at No.1.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on May 18, Michael drew 179,027 viewers on May 17, maintaining the top spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience has reached 647,913. During the weekend alone, the film attracted 470,372 moviegoers.
The film chronicles the rise of Michael Jackson from a musical prodigy to the King of Pop, featuring legendary performances and music that reshaped global pop culture.
Super Mario Galaxy ranked second with 59,067 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience to 1,469,527.
The animated sequel follows Mario and Luigi, who evolved from ordinary plumbers in New York into world-saving heroes, as they team up with new characters including Yoshi and embark on an even larger interstellar adventure across diverse worlds.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 placed third with 40,142 viewers, pushing its cumulative audience to 1,444,286.
The sequel reunites Miranda, the legendary editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Runway, with Andy, who returns as a features editor after 20 years, alongside Emily, now an executive at a luxury brand. Together, they navigate a transformed media landscape in a fierce battle for influence in the fashion industry.
Salmokji ranked fourth with 32,133 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience to 3,169,734 and officially becoming the highest-grossing horror film in Korean box office history.
The horror film follows a mysterious figure captured on a road-view image at Salmokji, leading a film crew back to a reservoir for reshoots, where they encounter something lurking in the dark depths of the water.
Project Hail Mary rounded out the top five with 13,124 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience to 2,847,148.
The film centers on a scientist who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory and must carry out a final mission to prevent humanity’s extinction. It is based on the novel by Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
