The stage adaptation of Dead Poets Society has unveiled three main posters ahead of its Korean premiere, heightening anticipation for the production. Each visual captures a different emotional texture between teacher and students, reinterpreting the original work’s enduring message through distinct atmospheres and character dynamics.
Opening on July 18 at NOL Theater Daehangno Woori Card Hall, the play unfolds within the rigid environment of Welton Academy, where teacher John Charles Keating and his students gradually influence and transform one another. The newly released posters each center on a different version of Keating, emphasizing his evolving relationship with the students.
The poster featuring Cha In-pyo presents students gathered on school steps sharing books and conversation. The image balances quiet warmth with restrained charisma, visualizing the first crack within a tightly controlled educational environment.
Meanwhile, Oh Man-seok’s version captures Keating smiling with students on a bench beneath autumn-colored trees. The atmosphere shifts toward empathy rather than authority, deepening the emotional distance being narrowed between teacher and students.
The poster led by Yeon Jung-hoon places Keating naturally among students seated on the grass, emphasizing openness and freedom. The softer visual tone highlights emotional change unfolding outside institutional order while suggesting a newly forming relationship between teacher and pupils.
The production is based on Tom Schulman’s Academy Award-winning screenplay for "Dead Poets Society," built around the enduring message of “Carpe Diem.” Iconic lines including “O Captain! My Captain!” are also expected to return on stage.
The Korean premiere brings together director Jo Gwanghwa, music director Lee Dongjun and costume designer Ko Taeyong as part of the creative team. Rising actors Kim Rakhyun, Lee Jaehwan and Chanhee will alternate in the role of Neil Perry, while Kim Taegyun and Moon Sunghyun take on the role of Todd Anderson, adding a fresh generational dynamic to the production.
Performances run from July 18 through September 13. Inside the confined space of a classroom, the production once again asks how far a single question about freedom, identity and life can reach.
