The Gardeners has officially begun filming, unveiling an all-star cast led by Song Kang-ho and Koo Kyo-hwan.
Directed by Nam Dong-hyub, known for the comedy thriller Handsome Guys, the new project centers on a plant-loving civil servant who joins forces with a neighborhood troublemaker to launch an unusual gardening business, throwing an otherwise peaceful village into chaos.
The recently revealed script reading session gathered an impressive ensemble including Song Seung-heon, Lee Kwang-soo, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Byung-chul, Park Ju-hyun, Kim Sung-kyun, Woo Hyun, Lim Won-hee, and Lee Jae-in.
Despite it being their first collaboration, the cast reportedly displayed strong chemistry and fast-paced comedic timing, heightening anticipation for a fresh style of ensemble comedy.
Song Kang-ho takes on the role of Choi Young-il, a diligent civil servant and gifted plant caretaker capable of reviving even dying flowers. Koo Kyo-hwan plays Kim Moon-ho, an unpredictable local troublemaker who constantly attracts chaos.
Song Seung-heon appears as fallen celebrity Han Cheong-yong, while Lee Kwang-soo portrays Song Sajang, a character closely connected to Choi Young-il. Shin Hyun-been joins as Kang Mi-ae, bringing subtle tension to the story.
The production also reunites director Nam Dong-hyub with cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo, known for visually acclaimed works including Parasite and Deliver Us from Evil.
Produced by Hive Media Corp., the studio behind 12.12: The Day and Harbin, "The Gardeners" is shaping up as a large-scale comedy project blending strong performances with genre-driven entertainment.
