Phantom Lawyer intensified its momentum ahead of the finale, pulling viewers deeper into its escalating confrontation between truth and power.
Episode 15, aired May 1, followed Shin Yi-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok) and his father Shin Gi-jung (Choi Won-young) as they moved decisively to uncover the truth behind a case buried for 22 years. The episode recorded 7.3 percent nationwide and in the Seoul metropolitan area, with peak ratings reaching 8 percent, continuing the drama’s upward trajectory.
The episode’s major turning point came as Shin Gi-jung regained his lost memories. After hearing Yi-rang confess, “You are my father,” fragments of the past began falling back into place. Gi-jung resolved not to reunite with his family until he cleared his false accusation, while the truth surrounding teacher Yoon Dae-myung’s case slowly emerged.
Years earlier, Gi-jung had questioned an investigation targeting a teacher amid organized pressure, concluding that the case was not a simple act of violence but the result of interference from those in power. However, he lost track of the crucial tape recorder containing evidence before his memories disappeared. Now, that thread has returned to his son.
Meanwhile, those at the top of the power structure moved to suppress the truth. Taebaek Group chairman Yang Byung-il (Choi Kwang-il) admitted partial involvement in the past incident while continuing to conceal the core crime. His son Yang Do-kyung (Kim Do-kyung), meanwhile, began acting aggressively to prevent the truth from surfacing, deepening the conflict between the two sides.
A critical clue eventually surfaced from an unexpected place. Alongside Gi-jung’s old notebook, the hidden tape recorder was finally discovered. Yet revealing it carried the risk of placing Yi-rang in danger, leaving Gi-jung caught in a painful dilemma. Han Na-hyun (Esom) ultimately persuaded him, and together they agreed to expose the truth.
From there, the pace accelerated rapidly. Members of the Saryonghoe organization stormed the office, triggering violent confrontation. Possessing his son’s body, Gi-jung unleashed his kendo skills to fend off the attackers. But when the possession abruptly broke, another crisis followed, forcing Yi-rang to continue the fight himself.
The final sequence delivered an overwhelming father-son action scene, moving as though they were one. With the declaration, “This time, I won’t let them take it away,” the episode closed on a powerful emotional peak.
All attention now turns to the finale. Viewers are waiting to see whether Yi-rang can clear his father’s name and finally reunite his fractured family after decades apart.
The final episode airs May 2.
