Ran 12.3 has unexpectedly claimed the top spot in advance ticket sales, signaling strong audience interest ahead of its release.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, the film recorded a reservation rate of 16.3 percent (34,248 tickets) as of 7 a.m. on April 20, ranking No.1 overall. This marks the first time in eight years that a documentary addressing a major social issue has led the reservation chart since The Truth Shall Not Sink with Sewol.
Notably, the film has outpaced competing releases, including AUDITION 109 and the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, highlighting the intensity of public attention surrounding its subject matter.
Set for release on April 22, Ran 12.3 documents the events of December 3, 2024, when former President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law, capturing the urgent on-the-ground responses of those who mobilized to defend democratic order.
Directed by Lee Myung-se, known for the classic Nowhere to Hide, the film adopts a cinematic documentary approach to reconstruct the crisis with immediacy and tension.
A special GV event featuring actor Park Joong-hoon and director Lee Myung-se will be held on April 27 at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall. Tickets sold out shortly after opening, further underscoring the film’s momentum.
