Colony heightens suspense with newly released stills, placing Koo Kyo-hwan at the center of a deepening mystery amid a large-scale infection outbreak in downtown Seoul.
Set inside a towering high-rise, the film follows survivors trapped in isolation as they confront infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the film is scheduled for release on May 21 and has been officially invited to the Midnight Screening section of the Cannes Film Festival, drawing global attention.
Among the stills, Se-jeong (Jun Ji-hyun) is seen holding a phone and flashlight, hinting at critical information she may have uncovered about the infected.
In stark contrast stands Seo Young-cheol (Koo Kyo-hwan), the figure behind the outbreak. His endlessly reflected image in a mirror intensifies the enigma surrounding his motives.
Ji Chang-wook appears as Hyun-seok, leading survivors while carrying his injured sister (Kim Shin-rok) on his back, conveying urgency and desperation. Meanwhile, Shin Hyun-been plays a biotechnologist working outside the building, investigating the cause of the outbreak with unwavering resolve.
Kim Shin-rok’s composed presence in a wheelchair suggests a character navigating crisis with calm authority, while Go Soo portrays Han Gyu-seong, assisting a frightened student and revealing his selfless nature.
Tension escalates as infected figures approach with distorted movements, and groups of blood-soaked bodies move in eerie unison, visually embodying the concept of a “colony.”
Additional stills depict armed special forces entering the darkened rooftop, underscoring the scale of the crisis. As the situation spirals, the film raises a central question: how will this confrontation between survivors and a new form of life reach its conclusion?
