Jeonju’s urban alleys are set to transform into cinematic spaces as the 27th Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) expands its outdoor screening program, “Alley Screenings,” bringing films directly into the heart of the city.
The festival’s organizing committee announced detailed schedules and lineups for the program, centered around the Film Street and Hanok Village areas. This year’s edition marks a notable expansion, introducing newly configured screening venues and enhancing the diversity of audience experiences.
“Alley Screenings” will take place across five locations: near Chipyeong Parking Lot, Jeonju Jungang Church Square, a space beside Tiara Nail Shop, the Pungnam Gate area, and Wansan Publishing Culture Center. The program runs for eight days from April 30 to May 7, with most screenings starting at 8 p.m., except for select sessions.
Audience engagement has been significantly strengthened this year. A total of seven Guest Visits (GV) sessions will be held, featuring 15 guests including directors and actors, who will share insights into their works and behind-the-scenes stories.
The feature film lineup includes four titles: “Layover Hotel,” “Lovers in an Empty House,” “Güle Güle,” and “House of Encounters.” All were previously recognized at the festival and are set to reconnect with audiences in this open-air format.
The short film section presents nine works, including “Mistletoe,” “Snow in Summer,” “Patch,” “World Premiere,” “Engine CPR,” “Wooden Figure,” “Hiking,” “The Bicycle Thief,” and “Stain.” Notably, barrier-free (Value Bom) films are included, expanding accessibility for a wider audience.
The program is operated in collaboration with local film and media organizations, which participate not only in film selection but also in pre-screening commentary and GV sessions, reinforcing the link between the festival and the regional film ecosystem.
“The Alley Screenings represent a uniquely Jeonju program where urban space and cinema intersect,” the festival stated. “We hope audiences will experience firsthand how everyday locations can evolve into cinematic environments.”
The 27th Jeonju International Film Festival will be held across Jeonju from April 29 to May 8.
