Salmokji dominated the box office over its opening weekend, holding the No.1 position for five consecutive days.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on April 13, Salmokji drew 197,690 viewers on April 12, maintaining its lead. Its cumulative audience has reached 724,039, with more than 530,000 admissions recorded over the three-day weekend period from April 10 to 12.
The horror film follows a mysterious figure captured on a road-view image at Salmokji, leading a film crew back to a reservoir for reshoots, where they encounter something lurking in the dark depths of the water. The film stars Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, Kim Jun-han, Kim Young-sung, Oh Dong-min, Yoon Jae-chan, and Jang Da-a.
Project Hail Mary ranked second with 97,251 viewers for the day, pushing its cumulative total past 2 million to 2,041,524.
The film centers on a scientist who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory and must carry out a final mission to prevent humanity’s extinction. It is based on the novel by Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
The King's Warden added 65,972 viewers, placing third with a cumulative total of 16,397,347. It currently ranks No.2 on the all-time Korean box office chart, surpassing Extreme Job (16,266,641).
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film tells the story of a village leader who voluntarily chooses exile for the revival of his community and a young deposed king sent into exile.
Fourth place went to Running Man: Light & Shadow, which drew 5,853 viewers, bringing its total to 13,057.
The film is a supernatural action adventure depicting the final battle between the secret organization Metronome and the fate of Tri-City, as they attempt to stop the villainous Dark Running Man.
Hoppers followed in fifth place, adding 5,824 viewers for a cumulative total of 754,048.
The Pixar-style animated adventure follows a girl named Mabel, whose consciousness is transferred into an animal robot through “hopping” technology, as she infiltrates a vibrant animal world and embarks on an unexpected journey.
