Salmokji is beginning to gain traction through word of mouth, holding firmly to the top of the box office for four consecutive days.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on April 12, Salmokji drew 227,008 viewers on April 11 alone, securing the No.1 spot. Its cumulative audience now stands at 526,361.
The horror film follows a mysterious figure captured on a road-view image at Salmokji, leading a film crew back to a reservoir for reshoots, where they encounter something lurking in the dark depths of the water. The film stars Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, Kim Jun-han, Kim Young-sung, Oh Dong-min, Yoon Jae-chan, and Jang Da-a.
Project Hail Mary ranked second with 121,176 admissions for the day, bringing its total to 1,944,272.
The film centers on a scientist who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory and must complete a final mission to save humanity from extinction. It is based on the novel by Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
The King's Warden added 70,659 viewers, placing third with a cumulative total of 16,331,379.
After surpassing 10 million viewers in just 31 days, the film officially climbed to No.2 on the all-time Korean box office chart on April 11, overtaking Extreme Job (16,266,641).
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film tells the story of a village leader who voluntarily chooses exile for the revival of his community and a young deposed king who is sent into exile.
Fourth place went to Running Man: Light & Shadow, which opened with 6,701 viewers, reaching a total of 7,204.
The film is a supernatural action adventure depicting the final battle between the secret organization Metronome and the fate of Tri-City, as they attempt to stop the villainous Dark Running Man.
Hoppers followed in fifth place, adding 5,725 viewers for a cumulative total of 748,224.
The Pixar-style animated adventure follows a girl named Mabel, whose consciousness is transferred into an animal robot through “hopping” technology, as she infiltrates an extraordinary animal world and embarks on an unexpected journey.
