The King’s Warden has reclaimed the top spot at the Korean box office, overtaking Project Hail Mary in a closely contested race.
According to the Korean Film Council on April 7, The King’s Warden drew 37,815 viewers on April 6, ranking No.1 for the day. Its cumulative audience now stands at 16,129,508.
The film previously surpassed 10 million admissions in just 31 days and currently ranks third on the all-time Korean box office chart. It is now rapidly approaching second place, currently held by Extreme Job with 16.26 million admissions.
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, The King’s Warden tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily exiles himself for the sake of his community, and a young dethroned king sent into exile.
Project Hail Mary fell to second place with 35,047 admissions on the same day, bringing its cumulative total to 16,700,266.
The film follows a scientist who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory, tasked with a final mission to prevent humanity’s extinction. It is based on the novel by Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
The Ultimate Duo ranked third with 7,164 admissions, followed by the Japanese romance The Last Song You Left Behind in fourth place with 3,790 viewers.
The re-release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle rounded out the top five, adding 2,354 admissions for a cumulative total of 5,784,883.
