Kim Yuna, widely known as the “Queen of Figure Skating,” is stepping onto an entirely new stage as a ballerina, marking a bold artistic transformation.
Kim Yuna will headline the special project “Our Queen is back,” unveiled by Kakao Entertainment on April 6. Directed by Shin Woo-seok, the project also features legendary ballerina Kang Sue-jin, setting the stage for a rare collaboration between two icons.
At the center of the project is a bold reinterpretation of Kim Yuna’s iconic short program “Danse Macabre,” now transformed into a ballet performance. Long remembered as one of the most striking routines in figure skating history, the piece returns in an entirely new form, raising anticipation over how its dramatic intensity will translate from ice to stage.
The project expands beyond a single performance. In addition to the main film capturing Kim Yuna’s ballet stage, audiences will be offered behind-the-scenes footage, production documentaries, and five short-form videos exploring her journey before and after the performance.
The collaboration between Kim Yuna and Kang Sue-jin has drawn particular attention, with expectations high for a performance that merges athletic precision with classical ballet mastery.
The project also marks a new creative venture for director Shin Woo-seok, known for his imaginative storytelling and visually refined productions. His previous original content, “The Christmas Song,” created in collaboration with Google, earned praise for its emotional narrative, unexpected twists, and striking visual composition.
This time, the project again partners with Google, incorporating AI technology into the creative process. Rather than serving as a simple production tool, AI was used by experts across disciplines to expand artistic possibilities and enhance individual creativity.
Director Shin Woo-seok stated, “We created this project in the hope that people can pursue their potential without giving up their dreams due to time, money, or competition. Kim Yuna devoted herself to mastering a new form as a ballerina, and we hope this work becomes a special gift to her fans.”
