The Diaspora Film Festival has launched a hands-on film criticism workshop designed to nurture emerging young critics. Marking its 14th edition, the festival is now accepting applications for its youth program “Moving Images.”
Developed in collaboration with the Korea National University of Arts’ School of Film, TV and Multimedia, the program centers on exploring diaspora through cinema and translating those insights into critical writing. The practice-based curriculum encourages participants to examine narratives of migration and displacement across Korea and the wider world through their own perspectives.
Applicants must be born between 2008 and 2010. Any student with an interest in diversity, coexistence, and film analysis is eligible to apply. The application period runs from April 6 to April 24.
The workshop will be held over four sessions from May 16 to May 30. Starting with lectures by film critics, the program progresses through screenings, discussions, and writing exercises, guiding participants through the full process of critical interpretation. Completed works will be compiled into a published criticism volume.
“Wars, economic crises, and climate change are forcing more people to leave their homes,” the festival said. “We hope this program offers young participants an opportunity to reflect on these issues from diverse perspectives and engage with the value of coexistence through cinema.”
The 14th Diaspora Film Festival will run from May 22 to May 26 at venues including Incheon Art Platform, Aegwan Theater, and the Korea-China Cultural Center.
