“Project Hail Mary” has taken the top spot at the Korean box office, ending the long-running dominance of “The King’s Warden.”
According to the Korean Film Council on April 4, “Project Hail Mary” drew 58,078 moviegoers on April 3, bringing its cumulative total to 1,364,547. Starring Ryan Gosling, the film follows a scientist who awakens alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory and must complete a final mission to save humanity. It is based on a novel by Andy Weir.
“The King’s Warden” fell to second place with 52,069 admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 15,873,492. After surpassing 10 million viewers in just 31 days, the film currently ranks third on Korea’s all-time box office chart. With momentum slowing near the 16 million mark, attention is now on whether it can surpass “Extreme Job” (16.26 million) and “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” (17.61 million).
“THE ULTIMATE DUO” held onto third place with 11,763 viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 26,380. The film follows a demoted detective who gets one final chance to solve a murder case involving two suspects, teaming up with a rookie officer as they head to Seoul.
Japanese romance “The Last Song You Left Behind” ranked fourth with 7,267 admissions, bringing its total to 25,491. It tells the story of a poetic boy and a musically gifted girl who build their own world through music and love.
The re-release of “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” placed fifth with 5,903 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 5,756,534. The film depicts the first chapter of the final battle between demon slayers and elite demons inside the Infinity Castle.
