The globally beloved webtoon and drama “Yumi’s Cells” will return in summer 2026 as a full-scale musical. Production companies Sam Company and Studio N confirmed that the show will premiere on June 30 at the CJ Towol Theater in Seoul’s Arts Center.
Alongside the announcement, the production unveiled its principal cast and an official poster created by Yoshida Yuni, heightening expectations for both visual and theatrical impact.
Based on the original webtoon by Lee Dong-gun, the story follows an ordinary office worker, Yumi, whose emotions and daily life are visualized through personified “cells” inside her mind. With more than 3.5 billion global views, the IP has already proven its influence through successful drama and animation adaptations.
The musical aims to fully realize Yumi’s inner world on stage, bringing each “cell” to life as a distinct character. Dynamic performances and addictive musical numbers combine to deliver both visual spectacle and emotional resonance, translating everyday concerns and romance into a warm, relatable narrative.
Tiffany Young and Kim Yewon have been cast as Yumi.
Tiffany Young, who demonstrated commanding stage presence in “Chicago,” is set to portray the character’s inner conflicts with nuance. Kim Yewon, known for her stable acting and clear vocal tone, will deliver a grounded and relatable interpretation.
Jung Taek-woon and Jung Jin-woon take on the role of the mysterious cell “109,” a newly created character not present in the original work. The role is expected to heighten dramatic tension, with Jung Taek-woon bringing interpretive depth and Jung Jin-woon marking his musical debut.
The “Love Cell” will be portrayed by Kim Sohyang and Yuria. Kim Sohyang brings powerhouse vocals proven in productions such as “Anna Karenina” and “Evita,” while Yuria is expected to deliver finely tuned emotional control and vocal range.
Direction is led by Yang Jung-woong, known for serving as artistic director of the 2025 APEC Summit and for helming the opening ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Composer Choi Jaekwang, music director Kim Sungsoo, and writer Kim Garam complete a top-tier creative team.
The official poster by Yoshida Yuni stands out for its analog composition without CG. A blue heart object symbolizes the cellular world, while a pink lip motif adds contrast, visually suggesting the transformation of imagination into stage reality.
