A Korea–Thailand co-production film is moving forward, bringing a rarely explored perspective of the Korean War into focus through the experiences of Thai youth.
“1950. Memory of the Day” officially entered development following a production agreement ceremony held last month in Bangkok. The event marked the formal launch of a joint film initiative between Korean and Thai production companies.
The project is a collaboration between iFilm Corporation, ThaiKo Film, and Mbrella Films. Key figures including iFilm CEO Lee Seok-jun, ThaiKo Film CEO Siddhivadhi Kittisiddho, and Mbrella Films CEO Joshua Dixon attended the ceremony, signaling the start of a coordinated international production effort.
Set in the 1950s, the film follows Thai youth who are thrust into the Korean War, capturing their journey through camaraderie, sacrifice, and survival. Based on documented historical events, the feature-length film will be shot across Thailand and South Korea, with winter combat sequences expected to play a central role in enhancing its scale and realism.
ThaiKo Film will lead overall production, while Mbrella Films will handle local filming in Thailand. iFilm Corporation will oversee Korean shoots and post-production.
Thai media have introduced the project as a notable international co-production depicting Thailand’s role in the Korean War. Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the shared wartime experience between the two nations laid the foundation for their current strategic partnership.
