“The King’s Warden” continues its overwhelming box office run, firmly holding the top spot over the weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council, the film drew 188,432 viewers on March 29 alone, ranking No.1 for the day. Its cumulative audience has reached 15,615,930. Over the three-day weekend period from March 27 to 29, it recorded a total of 511,885 admissions.
After surpassing 10 million viewers in just 31 days, the film has maintained strong momentum, overtaking “Ode to My Father” and “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” to claim No.3 on Korea’s all-time box office list. With sustained audience demand despite new releases, attention is now on whether it can challenge the records of “Extreme Job” and “The Admiral: Roaring Currents.”
Set in 1457 in Cheongnyeongpo, the story follows a village head who voluntarily chooses exile for the sake of his people and a young dethroned king. As the first Korean film to explore the untold story of King Danjong, it has gained strong word-of-mouth, driven by standout performances from its cast.
Meanwhile, Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, held second place with 146,837 viewers on the day, bringing its cumulative total to 1,150,691.
The film follows a scientist who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory and must complete a final mission to save humanity. It is based on a novel by Andy Weir.
The animated adventure Hoppers climbed to third place with 19,234 viewers, reaching a cumulative 708,090.
In fourth place, Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century drew 13,861 viewers, with a total of 51,932.
The re-release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle ranked fifth with 8,952 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 5,735,590.
