The King’s Warden has surpassed 15 million admissions just 50 days after its release, continuing its dominant run at the Korean box office.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on March 26, the film drew 100,075 viewers on March 25 alone, securing the No. 1 spot. Its cumulative audience now stands at 15,031,648.
After crossing the 10 million mark in just 31 days, the film has steadily climbed the all-time rankings, surpassing Ode to My Father (14.26 million) and Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (14.41 million) to claim third place in Korean box office history. Attention is now focused on whether it can overtake Extreme Job (16.26 million) and The Admiral: Roaring Currents (17.61 million).
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film tells the story of a village leader who voluntarily chooses exile for the sake of his community, and a young dethroned king forced into exile. As the first Korean film to explore the untold story of King Danjong, it has drawn strong word-of-mouth, supported by acclaimed performances from Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Min.
In second place, Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, attracted 73,502 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 717,587. The film follows a scientist who awakens alone on a spacecraft with no memory, tasked with saving humanity from extinction.
Re-release title Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle climbed back to No. 3 with 7,306 viewers, reaching a cumulative 5,708,265.
It was followed by Attack on Titan: The Final Season – The Last Attack in fourth place with 5,956 additional viewers, nearing the 1 million mark with a total of 999,953.
Rounding out the top five is Hoppers, which added 5,780 viewers for a cumulative total of 660,348. The animated adventure follows a girl transformed into a robotic beaver through “hopping” technology, embarking on an unexpected journey in the animal world.
