Netflix’s Boyfriend on Demand has surged to No.1 globally, but what followed its success is drawing just as much attention. Instead of holding a traditional press interview, Jisoo and Seo In-guk chose to respond in writing.
According to Netflix Tudum, the series topped the Global Top 10 non-English TV chart and landed in the Top 10 across 47 countries. It also ranked No.1 for two consecutive weeks in TV-OTT buzz rankings, confirming both global reach and domestic impact.
In the industry, hit dramas typically lead to back-to-back press interviews. That pattern was broken. The decision to skip in-person media sessions and deliver a written interview instead has sparked curiosity about the cast’s approach following the show’s rapid rise.
Jisoo, who plays Mirae, focused on emotional relatability, saying many viewers connected with the fear of starting love again after heartbreak. Seo In-guk, taking on dual roles as Gyeongnam and virtual partner Gu Young-il, said he found it interesting that audiences were split over which character they preferred.
The two also pointed to strong on-set chemistry as a driving force behind the series. Jisoo described Seo as a supportive partner who made filming enjoyable, while Seo praised Jisoo’s bright energy, saying it kept the atmosphere light throughout production. Both emphasized the detailed discussions that shaped their performances.
At its core, Boyfriend on Demand blends 현실적인 연애 감정과 가상 세계 설정, a combination the actors believe sets it apart. They expressed hope the series will be remembered not just as a romance, but as a new kind of romantic comedy.
