The film "The King's Warden" (directed by Jang Hang-jun) continues its unstoppable run at the box office, setting new records day after day.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on March 13, "The King's Warden" drew 158,650 moviegoers on March 12, bringing its cumulative admissions to 12,214,093.
"The King's Warden" is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily chooses exile for the revival of his village and a young deposed king who was banished after losing the throne. The film has drawn attention as the first Korean movie to explore a hidden story surrounding King Danjong. Performances by Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Min have been widely praised, fueling strong word of mouth and sustained box office momentum.
In particular, "The King's Warden" joined the "10 million admissions club" just 31 days after its release, drawing attention to its final box office tally. Among the 34 Korean films that have surpassed 10 million admissions, it has already overtaken "Parasite" (2019, 10.31 million), "The Roundup: Punishment" (2024, 11.50 million), "Train to Busan" (2016, 11.57 million), "Exhuma" (2024, 11.91 million), and "A Taxi Driver" (2017, 12.18 million), currently ranking 17th on the all-time list. It is expected to soon surpass "Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days" (2018, 12.27 million) and "Masquerade" (2012, 12.32 million).
"Hoppers" held second place after drawing 9,567 viewers, bringing its cumulative admissions to 357,947.
"Hoppers" is an animal adventure about a girl named Mabel who becomes a robotic beaver through "hopping" technology and infiltrates the animal world, embarking on an unexpected adventure.
"Samakdo" ranked third with 7,169 viewers, bringing its cumulative admissions to 19,168.
"Samakdo" tells the story of a village where a prophecy and hidden secrets surrounding a cult that disappeared after the Japanese colonial era reveal a terrifying reality.
The re-released "F1 The Movie" added 5,337 viewers to place fourth. Its cumulative admissions now stand at 5,226,728.
"F1 The Movie" follows veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who joins a struggling team and teams up with a brilliant rookie driver for the race of a lifetime.
"Humint" ranked fifth after drawing 3,955 viewers, bringing its cumulative admissions to 1,951,303.
"Humint" is set in Vladivostok, where both secrets and truths sink beneath the icy sea, and depicts a clash between characters pursuing different goals. The film is directed by Ryoo Seung-wan and stars Zo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Shin Se-kyung, and Park Hae-joon.
