Milla Jovovich, the global action star known for films such as ‘The Fifth Element’ and the ‘Resident Evil’ series, is returning to the big screen with a new action project.
Jovovich made her film debut at the age of 12 in the 1988 film ‘Two Moon Junction’. After building a diverse career across television, film, and music, she gained international attention with Luc Besson’s sci-fi classic ‘The Fifth Element’. In 2002, she became a worldwide action icon through the role of Alice in ‘Resident Evil’, the film adaptation of the popular video game franchise. She appeared in six installments of the series over more than a decade, establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s defining female action stars.
Now she returns with the new action thriller ‘Protector’, set for release on the 25th. Notably, the film is based on a Korean screenplay personally selected by Jovovich.
‘Protector’ follows Nikki Halstead (Milla Jovovich), a former U.S. special forces operative who must find her kidnapped daughter Chloe within 72 hours. As she confronts a powerful criminal organization, the film unfolds as an intense pursuit action story. The project has drawn attention as a Hollywood production created through collaboration between Korean production and investment companies and American filmmaking crews.
The film originated from the script of Korean writer Moon Bong-seop. Beginning his career as a junior staff member in the Chungmuro film industry, Moon spent years developing stories while working on film sets.
“My childhood dream was to become a ‘Hollywood kid,’” Moon said. “I always had deep affection for Hollywood films and directors. While writing the script, I hoped to incorporate a sense of Korean-style drama into the story.”
Jovovich expressed strong confidence in the project, saying, “Moon Bong-seop’s script was truly beautiful.”
In ‘Protector’, Jovovich portrays Nikki, delivering emotionally intense acting alongside demanding action sequences. The character faces extreme circumstances, risking everything in a desperate mission to rescue her daughter.
The action is further elevated by the participation of 87North Productions, the renowned stunt and action studio behind films such as the ‘John Wick’ series, ‘The Fall Guy’, and ‘Ballerina’.
With her distinctive screen presence and powerful action performances, Jovovich has captivated audiences worldwide for decades. Now at the age of 50, she continues to challenge herself with new roles. ‘Protector’ marks another chapter in the career of the veteran action star, drawing attention as a fresh step beyond her iconic work in ‘The Fifth Element’ and ‘Resident Evil’.
