Director Kim Han-min has officially begun production on his new historical action blockbuster "The Sword Rebirth of the Red Wolf." Lead actors Park Bo-gum, Joo Won, Jung Jae-young, and Lee Sun-bin gathered together for the first activity reading session, showcasing intense energy as filming begins.
Kim Han-min is widely known for directing some of Korea’s most successful historical action films including "War of the Arrows" (2011), "The Admiral Roaring Currents" (2014), "Hansan Rising Dragon" (2022), and "Noryang Deadly Sea" (2023). His latest project continues that tradition with another large scale historical action epic.
"The Sword Rebirth of the Red Wolf" is set shortly after the fall of Goguryeo. The story follows a man who has lost his memory and been reduced to slavery, only to enter a brutal gladiator tournament where warriors fight for possession of a legendary sword.
Park Bo-gum takes on the role of Chilseong, an amnesiac warrior thrown into a slave gladiator arena after the collapse of Goguryeo. The character survives extreme circumstances without knowing his past, and the role is expected to highlight powerful sword fighting action and a dramatic transformation for the actor.
Joo Won portrays Gye Pil-haryeok, a cold and formidable warrior representing the Turkic forces in the alliance gladiator tournament. The character will display high level dual sword combat along with a commanding presence.
Jung Jae-young appears as Heuksugang, the leader of the Goguryeo restoration army known as the Damul forces, while Lee Sun-bin plays Maya, a determined member of the resistance group.
Vietnamese star Tran Thanh joins the cast as Ingwi, the Tang dynasty governor of the Andong Protectorate, bringing a powerful presence to the northern political struggle.
Actor Kim Jae-chul, known for his role in "Exhuma" (2024), plays the Khitan strategist Yarul. Choi Gwi-hwa appears as the Khitan tribal leader Daehajin-chung, while Park Myung-hoon, recognized for his performance in "Parasite" (2019), takes on the role of Pungsa, a former gatekeeper of Liaodong Fortress.
Actor Lee Soon-won portrays Jeok In-geol, the strategist serving under Seol In-gwi who oversees the gladiator tournament.
"The Sword Rebirth of the Red Wolf" has officially entered filming and is targeting a 2027 release, with plans for international distribution including Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.
