The film The King's Warden continues to demonstrate overwhelming box office momentum even after the holiday period, racing toward the 10 million milestone.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticket sales system on March 4, The King's Warden held the No.1 spot at the box office on March 3, drawing 194,493 viewers in a single day. The film’s cumulative admissions have now reached 9,407,833.
The King's Warden tells the story set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457, where a village chief voluntarily chooses exile for the prosperity of the village and a young former king who was dethroned and sent into exile. The film, which explores a hidden story of King Danjong for the first time in Korean cinema, is directed by storyteller Jang Hang-jun and features a strong acting ensemble including Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Min.
The film surpassed 3 million viewers in 14 days after release, 4 million in 15 days, 5 million in 18 days, 6 million in 20 days, 7 million in 24 days, and 8 million in 26 days, now standing on the brink of becoming the first 10-million-admissions film of the year.
HUMINT ranked second with 10,756 viewers for the day, bringing its cumulative admissions to 1,874,437.
HUMINT follows individuals with different objectives colliding in Vladivostok, where secrets and truths sink into the cold icy sea. The film is directed by Ryoo Seung-wan of Mogadishu, Smugglers, and the Veteran series, starring Jo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Shin Se-kyung, and Park Hae-joon.
5 Centimeters per Second drew 3,542 viewers to rank third, bringing its cumulative total to 71,292.
5 Centimeters per Second portrays the love and longing between Takaki and Akari, who move forward in life at different speeds while holding onto memories of their childhood. The film is a live-action adaptation of the animation of the same name by Makoto Shinkai, the director known for Your Name. and Suzume.
The sequel to 28 Years Later titled 28 Years Later The Bone Temple ranked fourth with 2,632 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 29,175. Following behind, Choir of God ranked fifth with 2,241 viewers.
