In Episode 4 of In Your Radiant Season, which aired on February 28, the emotional arc between Song Ha-ran and Sun Woo-chan deepened. According to Nielsen Korea, the episode recorded a nationwide rating of 3.1 percent, with the Seoul metropolitan area also at 3.1 percent. A scene in which Song Ha-young delivers a cathartic response upon hearing of her ex-boyfriend Cha Min’s marriage announcement peaked at 5.1 percent, drawing particular attention.
That evening, Sun Woo-chan visited a hospital after experiencing sudden tinnitus and visual disturbances. Medical staff suggested that memories linked to a past explosion accident may have been triggered by his reunion with Ha-ran. They explained that gaps in his memory still remained and advised that he keep some distance from her for the time being, leaving him further shaken.
Despite the warning, the two prepared for a field trip to Gyeongju and visited Banpo Bridge. Though it was a place marked by painful memories, they rode bicycles side by side, creating new ones. Ha-ran’s reflection that even a place filled with sorrow could hold laughter resonated with Chan’s quiet resolve to do anything if it meant she could be happy.
An unexpected incident soon followed. The sound of a car horn triggered Woo-chan’s trauma response, putting them briefly at risk of an accident. After narrowly regaining control, he blamed himself for possibly causing Ha-ran renewed anxiety. Sitting face to face at Café “Rest,” the two spoke candidly, mending cracks in their relationship. Ha-ran vowed not to confine herself to the past any longer, while Chan admitted he did not want to lose her courage.
Yet Woo-chan still harbored a secret. Seven years earlier, he had been the one contacting Ha-ran in place of Kang Hyuk-chan. When Ha-ran jokingly suggested he reveal a secret next time, he ultimately could not bring himself to speak.
Another layer of tension emerged when Kim Na-na was confronted with the possibility of dementia. After seeking counseling over repeated memory lapses, she asked her family not to be told for now and resolved to begin treatment. Her unsteady daily life, after years of caring for her granddaughters, added a note of poignancy.
In the final moments, the pair’s emotions reached a decisive crossroads. On the road to Gyeongju, a sudden downpour obscured visibility, and even the car’s wipers stopped working, heightening tension. Woo-chan gripped the steering wheel together with Ha-ran, eventually making it safely to a rest stop. The two later spent time at his grandmother’s home.
There, Ha-ran encountered Woo-chan’s childhood memories. His abandoned dream of becoming an artist due to his father’s opposition, his mother’s death, and his departure to the United States gradually came to light. His insistence that he was “someone who should not be liked” only complicated her feelings further.
Ultimately, Ha-ran confronted him inside the car. “Why am I someone you shouldn’t like?” she asked. After a brief silence, Woo-chan leaned closer and replied softly, “Then… does that mean I’m allowed to?”
In the quiet calm after the storm, the emotions they finally faced delivered a powerful, heart-fluttering ending.
