What does the smashed cake signify. Cracks begin to form in the seemingly peaceful lives of the two couples, Ha Jung-woo and Im Soo-jung, and Kim Jun-han and Krystal Jung.
Premiering on March 14, the new tvN weekend drama “Mad Concrete Dreams” follows a debt-ridden, livelihood landlord who becomes entangled in a staged kidnapping in order to protect the building and the family he holds more precious than his own life. The series promises a tense survival suspense.
The quiet routine of Ki Soo-jong played by Ha Jung-woo, an all-in leveraged landlord, and his wife Kim Sun played by Im Soo-jung begins to falter due to the fake kidnapping plot. Their close friend Min Hwal-sung played by Kim Jun-han and his wife Jeon Yi-kyung played by Krystal Jung also find their stable lives shaken.
On the rooftop of Ki Soo-jong’s building, “Seyoon Building,” a birthday party for Kim Sun is held. The couple shares a daughter, Dara played by Park Seo-kyung, presenting the image of a warm and harmonious family. Jeon Yi-kyung watches them affectionately, while Min Hwal-sung livens up the mood with confidence, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere.
Yet behind the bright smiles lie secrets and private concerns each of them keeps hidden. Though outwardly calm, a subtle tension lingers. The smashed cake placed before Kim Sun seems to foreshadow their uncertain future. Their laughter, unaware of what is to come, only heightens the sense of unease.
Ki Soo-jong’s decision to protect both his building and his family is expected to trigger unforeseen repercussions in the relationships among the four. What consequences will arise from the meeting of these two couples, the starting point of the fracture.
