Singer Jeong Dong-won is set to enlist in the Marine Corps.
According to his agency Showplay Entertainment on Feb. 23, Jeong will enter the Marine Corps training center to undergo basic military training before continuing his service on active duty. The agency explained that the decision was made after long deliberation and described it as a responsible choice to keep a promise to himself.
The agency added that it hopes fans will support him so he can faithfully fulfill his duty and return in a more mature form, and stated that it will continue to provide full support for the artist until his return.
Ahead of his enlistment, Jeong remained active while bidding farewell to fans. On Feb. 5, he released the remake mini-album “Souvenir Vol.2,” offering music to ease fans’ disappointment during his hiatus. On Feb. 13, he held his first solo fan concert at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, meeting fans in person. The concert, his final official schedule before enlistment, sold out all seats, demonstrating strong support.
After completing basic military training, Jeong is expected to serve for approximately 18 months. Attention is now turning to what kind of musical growth he will show after his military hiatus.
