Actor Ryu Soo-young has once again reaffirmed his presence through his trusted culinary instinct. He is no longer just an actor known for his performances. He has become a Korean food ambassador crossing borders.
On the February 16 broadcast of “Chef’s DNA,” Ryu captivated viewers with a handcrafted Korean meal built from ingredients sourced in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province. Using Sammi Korean beef, Ssanghwa herbal infusion, and fragrant mountain vegetables, he reinterpreted regional flavors into globally appealing dishes. His collaboration with Belgian adoptee chef Aejin Huys added symbolic meaning. It marked a moment when Korea’s local ingredients extended onto the world’s dining tables.
What stood out most was his philosophy. His remark, “Korean food is completed not on the plate but in the mouth,” went beyond commentary and reflected a deeper belief. Throughout the cooking process, he showed genuine enjoyment and communicated openly with those around him. It delivered more than entertainment. It conveyed both flavor and emotion.
Ryu’s journey with Korean cuisine did not begin recently. Through “Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant,” he sparked the “Eonam Teacher” recipe phenomenon and broadened public accessibility to Korean home cooking. Programs such as “Street Food Business” and “Ryu Student Eonamseon” further presented Korean cuisine in an approachable and relatable way. During the Lunar New Year holiday, he also appeared on Wavve’s “Monastic Chefs,” exploring the philosophy and discipline embedded in temple cuisine. He presented Korean food not only as recipes but as culture.
His presence has also grown on the global stage. Last year, he participated in the “2025 K-Expo UAE All About K-Style” event held in Canada and Dubai in collaboration with the Korea Creative Content Agency. He personally led cooking demonstrations, drawing strong responses from international audiences. It was a moment where taste became a bridge connecting cultures.
Actor, chef, and cultural ambassador. He holds multiple titles but follows one direction. Expanding K-culture through taste. Moving seamlessly between studio and kitchen, Ryu Soo-young has established his own domain. As he solidifies his role as a global K-food ambassador, anticipation builds for his next chapter.
