Actress Uhm Ji-won looks back on the moment she received her first acting Grand Prize since her debut.
The February 18 broadcast of MBC’s Radio Star will feature Uhm Ji-won, Choi Dae-chul, Kim Johahn, and Baek Jin-kyung (Honorary Briton) in a special episode titled “2026 Thumbs Up! Holding On to the End of Lunar New Year.”
Having built a steady filmography across both television and film, Uhm once again affirmed her presence with her Grand Prize win. She reveals why she could not hold back her emotions after watching the tribute video honoring the late Lee Soon-jae shown just before the award announcement. She candidly shares the moment she stepped on stage without a prepared acceptance speech and the emotions she struggled to contain as tears overwhelmed her.
She also shares behind-the-scenes stories with actor Choi Dae-chul, her co-star in “The Five Eagle Brothers.” Choi surprises the studio by revealing Uhm’s unexpected hobby, leaving her visibly flustered. Uhm further recounts how she decided to pierce her tongue after hearing about fellow actor Kim Dong-wan’s experience during a drama shoot, sharing the painful and shocking aftermath. Her unexpected hobby and fearless willingness to try new things astonish even the MCs.
In addition, Uhm reflects on her early career audition for director Kwak Kyung-taek’s film Pluto. She explains that although Jung Woo-sung had already been confirmed as the lead, all other roles were open to auditions, prompting her to participate. She recalls having an unusual intuition that she would be cast. She reveals that director Kwak personally called her afterward, saying, “You appeared in my dream,” to deliver the news of her casting.
Uhm also revisits her first major breakthrough as the lead in the MBC morning drama Golden Carriage, reflecting on the beginnings of her acting career and the early signs of her potential.
