Google announced a collaboration with Kakao to lead user experience innovation on Android devices leveraging Google’s next-generation AI technology.
Under this partnership, the two companies have agreed to collaborate closely for Kakao to develop helpful user experiences on AI glasses for Android XR and the latest AI-powered mobile experiences on Android.
Kakao will develop helpful user experiences for next-generation form factors like AI glasses powered by Android XR. These user experiences will work in real-world scenarios, including messaging and calling, with hands-free, and natural language interactions.
Google will also work together with Kakao to optimize its on-device AI services starting with ‘Kanana in KakaoTalk’ to run seamlessly on Android mobile devices. Powered by Kakao’s proprietary lightweight AI model, ‘Kanana in KakaoTalk’ is characterized by its ability to proactively engage users when assistance is needed. By analyzing conversation context directly on the device, it provides schedule briefings, information guides, and recommendations for places and products. Following its beta launch last October, Kakao plans to officially launch the service, including the Android version, within the first quarter of this year.
"We're excited to deepen our partnership with Kakao Corp. This partnership will combine Google’s latest AI technologies with Kakao’s proven innovation for Korean consumers. Together, we aim to bring helpful AI technologies to every Korean user, ” added Karen Teo, Google’s Vice President for Platform & Devices Partnerships for Asia Pacific.
"This partnership was driven by our desire to explore new opportunities by combining the technical strengths of both companies as we transition rapidly into the era of Agentic AI," said Shina Chung, CEO of Kakao. "By strengthening our technological competitiveness through this collaboration with Google, we look forward to delivering a superior, AI-enhanced daily experience to our users."
