Jisoo and Seo In-guk come together as an intriguingly heart-fluttering “overtime mate” duo in the Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand, set to premiere in 2026.
Boyfriend on Demand follows Mi-rae, a webtoon producer exhausted by the realities of everyday life, who turns to a virtual dating simulation to subscribe to and experience romance. Built upon the familiar routines of office workers, the series introduces a unique twist through the concept of “on-demand dating in a virtual world,” promising both realism and thrilling escapism.
Jisoo plays Mi-rae, an ordinary office worker whose demanding routine has pushed love and romance to the sidelines. In released stills, Mi-rae appears half-asleep on her commute, wearing noise-canceling headphones as she dozes off, a scene that perfectly captures the fatigue of modern working life. Another image shows her shivering outdoors in midwinter, hinting at the exhausting and unpredictable nature of her job. Curiosity builds as Mi-rae is later seen wearing the “Boyfriend on Demand” device, raising anticipation about what kind of virtual dates await her.
Seo In-guk portrays Kyung-nam, a popular webtoon producer at Nemo Studio and a colleague Mi-rae cannot quite figure out and instinctively wants to avoid. Focused and composed at work, Kyung-nam exudes the aura of a highly competent professional, maintaining a subtle emotional distance from Mi-rae. Yet a contrasting still reveals him looking disarmingly tipsy, suggesting a charming and unexpected side beneath his cool exterior.
Jisoo described Mi-rae as “an ordinary young adult who works hard and tries to find happiness in her own way,” adding that she focused on capturing emotions viewers could easily relate to. Seo In-guk introduced Kyung-nam as “a character with quiet bluntness and inner sensitivity,” teasing surprising turns and enjoyable moments throughout the series.
Director Kim Jung-sik emphasized that the central viewing point lies in Mi-rae’s growth and the evolving relationship between Mi-rae and Kyung-nam. He explained that the story portrays how Mi-rae, wounded by love in reality, experiences healing through the virtual world of Boyfriend on Demand and gradually finds the courage to love again. He added that audiences will naturally empathize with Mi-rae’s emotions and come to root for her journey.
Boyfriend on Demand premieres on Netflix on March 6.
