The King’s Warden has maintained its dominance at the top of the Korean box office for six consecutive days.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated box office system on February 10, The King’s Warden drew 98,390 viewers on February 9 alone, securing first place. Its cumulative audience has now reached 1,099,488.
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily chooses exile to revive his community and a young deposed king banished from the throne. As the first Korean film to explore the untold story of King Danjong, The King’s Warden is directed by Jang Hang-jun and features a powerful ensemble including Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Min, earning widespread acclaim for its performances.
Choir of God ranked second, attracting 13,546 viewers for the day and bringing its cumulative total to 1,129,442.
The film depicts the events that unfold after a fake propaganda choir is formed in North Korea as part of a foreign currency-earning scheme.
Once We Were Us placed third with 12,060 admissions, raising its total audience to 2,496,477. The romance follows Eun-ho (Koo Kyo-hwan) and Jung-won (Moon Ga-young), former lovers who reunite by chance after ten years and revisit fragments of their shared memories.
Fourth place went to THE DAY, DECEMBER 3, 2024: Fabricated Insurrection, Hidden Truth, which added 11,513 viewers for a cumulative total of 131,997. The documentary was produced by Jeon Han-gil and directed by Lee Young-don.
Rounding out the top five was Mercy, which drew 5,531 viewers, bringing its total admissions to 66,380. The time-limit thriller centers on a detective (Chris Pratt) who must prove his innocence within 90 minutes to avoid execution under a cold, data-driven AI judicial system known as “MERCY.”
