The on-screen pairing of Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo failed to capture a broad audience. The film Project Y has begun a simultaneous theatrical and VOD rollout.
Project Y is a crime entertainment film that follows Miseon (Han So-hee) and Dogyeong (Jeon Jong-seo), two women dreaming of a different tomorrow in the heart of a glittering city, who find themselves stealing illicit money and gold bars at the edge of their lives. The film drew early attention for the actors’ transformations and chemistry, along with performances by Kim Shin-rok, Jung Young-joo, and Kim Sung-cheol, as well as scene-stealers Lee Jaekyun and Yoo Ah.
Ahead of its release, the film was invited to the 50th Toronto International Film Festival in the Special Presentations section, won Best Film at the 10th London East Asia Film Festival, and received an official invitation to the 30th Busan International Film Festival. It also opened simultaneously in Korea and Japan, positioning itself as a globally noted title.
Hip-hop musician and producer GRAY served as music director, adding a distinctive tone to the film. The original soundtrack features contributions from Hwasa, Kim Wan‑sun, Dvwn, Hoody, and An Shinae.
Despite the early buzz, Project Y drew only about 130,000 moviegoers before exiting theaters. Beginning February 6, it becomes available on IPTV services including KT Genie TV, SK Btv, and LG U+ TV, as well as Home Choice, KT Skylife, Wavve, Apple TV, and Coupang Play.
