In episode 4 of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama No Tail to Tell, which aired on January 24, Jang Do-cheol (played by Kim Tae-woo) launched a full-scale “fox hunt.” Kang Si-yeol (played by Lomon) became the bait in his trap, while Eun-ho (played by Kim Hye-yoon) saved Si-yeol’s life and, as the price of her good deed, turned into a human. Just as the unfamiliar yet fluttering change in their relationship began to deepen, fragmented scenes flashed through Eun-ho’s mind, leading to an unexpected and shocking ending. Episode 3 recorded a peak viewership rating of 3.5 percent, according to Nielsen Korea, and ranked sixth on Netflix’s global non-English content chart based on FlixPatrol data from January 12 to January 18.

Kang Si-yeol desperately wanted to restore the swapped destinies between himself and Hyun Woo-seok (played by Jang Dong-joo). However, when he learned that another wish would be required to reverse fate, Hyun Woo-seok hesitated, saying, “Just one more month, just one more month, and then we can change it back.” Kang Si-yeol grew increasingly impatient. At that moment, Eun-ho came to find him, and moved by his desperate plea, she reluctantly agreed, saying, “When you wake up tomorrow morning, everything will be back to normal.”

An unexpected variable soon emerged. Jang Do-cheol, who had been targeting Eun-ho’s life, captured Kang Si-yeol instead. Realizing that Do-cheol was after Eun-ho, Si-yeol tried to stop him but was ambushed and collapsed unconscious. Sensing an ominous presence, Eun-ho appeared at Do-cheol’s hideout. As if he had been waiting, Do-cheol pulled out a ritual dagger. Fortunately, Eun-ho was unharmed, and the blade he thrust transformed into a straw doll. After driving away Do-cheol and Lee Yoon (played by Choi Seung-yoon), Eun-ho helped Si-yeol to his feet and apologized for getting him dragged into danger because of her.

The crisis did not end there. As Eun-ho suddenly writhed in unexplained pain, the blue fox bead floating in the air shattered into fragments. After collapsing into Si-yeol’s arms, Eun-ho opened her eyes and instinctively realized that she had become human. Saving the dying Si-yeol had returned to her as the price of her good deed.

Eun-ho becoming human was not only her tragedy. By losing all her supernatural powers, the way to restore the destinies of Kang Si-yeol and Hyun Woo-seok also disappeared. Even Pa-gun (played by Joo Jin-mo), the one person who could provide answers, was unreachable, leaving them in a frustrating dead end.

Meanwhile, Kang Si-yeol noticed something strange when he went to Jang Do-cheol’s hideout at Eun-ho’s request to retrieve the ritual dagger. The once colorful altar and decorations had vanished, replaced by an empty abandoned construction site. Through a newspaper article he found instead of the dagger, Si-yeol learned of the possible existence of another gumiho. Eun-ho dismissed it, saying, “There is no other gumiho on this land but me,” but Si-yeol began to suspect that everything was unfolding as if guided by some greater plan. Eventually, the two headed to Seoraksan, where a gumiho had once been reported, each for their own reasons.

Toward the end of the episode, attention focused on the changed atmosphere between Eun-ho and Kang Si-yeol after they returned from the mountain without finding either a gumiho or any sign of divine will. Now on her “second day as a human,” Eun-ho struggled with her weak physical condition after losing her thousand-year powers, while Si-yeol naturally took care of her, his heart racing without him even realizing it.

However, romance quickly gave way to tension. As Eun-ho slept, ambiguous scenes surfaced in her mind, whether from the past or the future, dream or reality. The image of a ritual dagger stabbed into her chest, her eyes filled with sorrow, followed by Kang Si-yeol holding the handle with a blank expression, sent chills down viewers’ spines. Whether the now-human Eun-ho and the fate-swapped Kang Si-yeol can save each other, and what the shocking ending truly foreshadows, has pushed anticipation to its peak.

No Tail to Tell airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.
