Park Shin Hye makes a bold transformation into a 20-year-old.
Premiering on January 17, tvN’s new weekend drama “Undercover Miss Hong” is a retro office comedy set in the late 1990s. The story follows Hong Geum Bo (played by Park Shin Hye), an elite financial supervisor in her 30s, who goes undercover as a 20-year-old entry-level employee at a securities firm where suspicious financial activity has been detected.
Still cuts released ahead of the premiere capture Hong Geum Bo being given a special mission to embody the fresh and youthful image of a woman in her early twenties, along with her “savior,” her younger sister Hong Jang Mi (played by Shin Yuna), who leads the transformation project.
Hong Jang Mi perfectly recreates the free-spirited mood associated with youth culture of the 1990s, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia with her presence alone. As a symbol of unrestrained energy and freedom, she stands in sharp contrast to her older sister Hong Geum Bo, who is known for her restrained charisma and neat styling, adding a fresh and visually dynamic tension to the story.
Meanwhile, Hong Geum Bo must use her younger sister’s identity in order to enter Hanmin Securities as a junior employee. Since she has to disguise not only her appearance but also her age and identity as a 20-year-old, she proceeds with extreme caution. Trying not to alert even her sister, she secretly studies the trends of “today’s youth.” However, realizing it is impossible to fully grasp the sensibilities of a 20-year-old on her own, she eventually turns to Hong Jang Mi for help. Known for her bold fashion sense, Hong Jang Mi is said to offer fearless and intuitive styling advice, raising anticipation.
Viewers are eager to see Hong Geum Bo’s complete “before and after” transformation once she follows her sister’s guidance from head to toe. There is also growing curiosity about whether the “youthful survival techniques” she learns through this crash course will work among her colleagues at Hanmin Securities and her dormitory roommates. The drama further highlights the genuine sisterly chemistry between the two characters, who overcome a 15-year age gap, making their relationship a key viewing point.
“Undercover Miss Hong” draws attention as a collaboration between tvN and Park Shin Hye, widely regarded as a box office queen. The drama also stars Ko Kyung Pyo, Ha Yoon Kyung, and Jo Han Gyeol, strengthening the ensemble lineup. Director Park Seon Ho, who previously helmed “Wok of Love,” “Business Proposal,” and “Suspicious Partner,” joins the project, heightening expectations for a lively and well-crafted retro office comedy.
“Undercover Miss Hong” premieres on January 17 at 9:10 p.m.
