“Once We Were Us,” starring Koo Kyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young, continues its dominance at the top of the Korean box office despite being screened on fewer screens than “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on January 14, “Once We Were Us” attracted 53,316 viewers on January 13 alone, maintaining its No.1 position. Its cumulative audience now stands at 1,154,299.
The film tells the story of Eun-ho (Koo Kyo-hwan) and Jung-won (Moon Ga-young), former lovers who unexpectedly reunite after ten years and retrace the traces of their memories in a deeply relatable romance. Since its release on December 31, the film has gained strong word-of-mouth support thanks to the actors’ intense performances and its emotionally resonant narrative. It surpassed one million admissions in just 12 days and reached its break-even point of 1.1 million viewers on its 13th day in theaters.
Ranked second is “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” which drew 32,354 viewers on the day, bringing its cumulative total to 6,147,379.
“Avatar: Fire and Ash” has demonstrated remarkable box office power, surpassing 1 million viewers in four days, 2 million in seven days, 3 million in ten days, 4 million in twelve days, 5 million in seventeen days, and 6 million in twenty-six days.
The film depicts an even greater crisis unfolding on Pandora, now engulfed in fire and ash, as the Ash Clan led by Varang emerges before the Sully family, who are still grieving the death of Neteyam, the first son of Jake and Neytiri.
Starring Park Si-hoo and Jung Jin-woon, “Choir of God” held onto third place with 15,717 admissions on the day, bringing its total audience to 292,251.
“Choir of God” portrays the story of a fake propaganda choir formed in North Korea as a means of earning foreign currency, and the events that unfold around it.
Fourth place went to “Zootopia 2,” which attracted 14,462 viewers in one day, raising its cumulative total to 8,343,087.
“Zootopia 2” follows the return of the beloved duo Judy and Nick as they chase a mysterious snake named Gary who throws the city into chaos, diving into a new world to investigate a perilous case in this thrilling investigative adventure.
Fifth place was taken by “Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight,” which drew 8,894 viewers, bringing its total audience to 796,958.
The film is a youth melodrama about Han Seo-yoon (played by Cynthia), who loses her memory every day, and Kim Jae-won (played by Choo Young-woo), who fills in her memories daily as they protect each other and keep their love alive.
Meanwhile, the film “Heart Man,” starring Kwon Sang-woo and Moon Chae-won, opens in theaters today, January 14.
As of the morning of January 14, “Heart Man” recorded 35,165 advance ticket reservations, ranking third in reservation rate.
“Heart Man” is a comedy about Seung-min (Kwon Sang-woo), a man who returns and struggles desperately not to lose his first love again, only to find himself burdened with a secret he can never reveal to her.
