Once We Were Us, starring Koo Kyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young, has claimed the top spot at the box office for three consecutive days, proving the enduring appeal of Korean romance films.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated box office network on January 10, Once We Were Us attracted 72,661 viewers on January 9 alone, maintaining its No. 1 position. Its cumulative audience now stands at 778,811.
Once We Were Us tells the story of Eun-ho (Koo Kyo-hwan) and Jeong-won (Moon Ga-young), who once shared a passionate love and reunite by chance after ten years, unfolding the traces of their memories in a deeply relatable romantic narrative. Since its release on December 31, the film has gained strong word of mouth thanks to the actors’ powerful performances and its emotionally resonant storyline.
Second place went to Avatar: Fire and Ash, which drew 58,054 viewers in one day, bringing its cumulative total to 5,821,442.
Previously, Avatar: Fire and Ash demonstrated remarkable box office power, surpassing 1 million viewers in four days, 2 million in seven days, 3 million in ten days, 4 million in twelve days, and 5 million in seventeen days after release. However, after passing the 5 million mark, daily attendance has declined, showing signs of slowing momentum.
The film portrays an even greater crisis unfolding on Pandora, now engulfed in fire and ash, as the Ash Clan led by Varang appears before the Sully family, who are still grieving the death of their eldest son, Neteyam, the child of Jake and Neytiri.
In third place, Zootopia 2 attracted 25,687 viewers, pushing its cumulative audience to 8,205,970.
Zootopia 2 follows the return of the iconic duo, Judy and Nick, as they chase a mysterious snake named Gary who has thrown the city into chaos. Their pursuit leads them into a new world, where they investigate a series of dangerous and thrilling cases in this high-energy investigative adventure.
Choir of God, starring Park Si-hoo and Jung Jin-woon, ranked fourth with 16,893 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 187,467.
Choir of God depicts the story that unfolds when a fake praise choir is formed in North Korea as a means of earning foreign currency.
Following closely, Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight placed fifth with 16,298 viewers, raising its cumulative audience to 729,853.
The film tells a youth romance about Han Seo-yoon (played by Cynthia), who loses her memory every day, and Kim Jae-won (played by Choo Young-woo), who fills in her lost memories each day, as they protect each other and continue to remember their love together.
